OTD 20 years ago, I took a flight from New York, starting an adventure I had no idea would take me where it did. Yes, I landed in Rome, Italy, where I remain today....but wow, the people, emotions, love, beauty, challenges, friendships, losses, discoveries and completely unexpected turns I have experienced!
I wish I could have put every one of you who has touched me, changed me, loved me, challenged me, worked with me, laughed with me, created with me, and been part of this ongoing journey into these few minutes. You know who you are!
Twenty years is impossible to fit into a little video. The adventure, btw, is still happening...

The Maps of Time and Rome is a series about experiencing a new place through the navigation of emotion and memory. Captions from a curatorial essay by Camilla Pigato.
Using Nolli’s 18th-century map of Rome, I layered acrylic, paper and printed graphics onto wood. Peeling walls, fragments of signage and layered textures inspire me.

Rome is a city where I have been lost and found many times. The Maps of Time and Rome is a series born from my experience of discovering Rome, not through conventional navigation, but through experiences and emotions.
Using Nolli’s 18th-century map of Rome, I layered acrylic paint and paper onto wood. Peeling walls, fragments and sweeps of color.
Each work is an emotional landscape: the mystery and sensuality of Rome, a navigation through time.
Three works from the series - Centro Pink, Roman Night and Centro Gold - will be exhibited in Prati this Saturday, October 17.

This work was created in layers: on a wooden canvas, paper and printed images, flowers, marks in acrylic and Ovid’s phrase “perpetuum ver est” enclosed in the strata.
The myth of Persephone is behind the emotions here, the daughter archetype who becomes a queen through confronting the darkness and her own suffering.

Writing with ink or pigment on paper gets my hand moving. I discover phrases and happen upon words that stand out and want to be painted.
Here, the poetry of Ovid is the subject, taking lines from the Metamorphoses. In my painting series on the subject, each painting emerged from a single phrase describing one of the mythical goddesses: Persephone, Athena and Hera.

Meet Spring Perpetuum Est.
She is part of the Ovid series, in which each work represents a mythical goddess. This one is all about Persephone, the archetype of the daughter who becomes queen through confronting the underworld, her own shadow.
While the Metamorphosis show is happening at Villa Borghese, these works can be seen in my Prati studio by appointment

With Ovid: Metamorphoses showing at the Galleria Borghese, I’m returning to my series made around the mythical.
This is “Spring Perpetuum Est”, about the goddess Persephone. It is paper, acrylic and ink on wood.
Ovid wrote perpetuum ver est: it is perpetual spring. The archetype of Persephone has always fascinated me. She is the daughter, impressionable and tied to her mother. To become the queen, she must confront the underworld, symbolizing her darkness and the masculine.
I painted this work inside that tension, between the pinks and decorative beauty of spring and the darker transformation underneath it.
