The Florentine Greats – in London
For the second year, I had the opportunity to attend the Women to Watch EMEA conference in London as VP / Creative and Branding of Beacon Int’l, one of the roles I have in my art director chair. My visit coincided with show Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael at the Royal Academy art museum.
That these Italian masters were the subject of this precious exhibit was a treat even though I live in the city which has many examples of their work. In this sweet and piccolo show, the focus was on a moment in time when the three “titans” crossed paths in Florence during their careers. The drawings and some paintings on display express the overlap of styles and references that the three shared, in competition for the top patrons of the time.
Studying the strokes and gestures – the process – of these artists was inspiring. Their masterpiece works of art did not emanate from a single moment, but from studies and practices over time.
I peaked into the Royal Academy’s collection gallery and drifted through their pretty gift shops – before heading to the airport back to the country of origin of these masters.
