Aozentum

The interior landscape of Salento is covered with fields of olive trees, divided by either hand-built stone walls or concrete brick ones. Throughout the landscape, many unfinished structures, hollowed out building frames, and abandoned homes emerge both on residential streets and in the middle of these arid fields. I have been fascinated by these structures – their lines, shadows – the colors that surround and permeate them.

(The name Aozentum is the original Latin one for the area of Salento where I stayed, the word meaning “land of Zeus”.)
