Business Ideas | Playing Georgina
There is something uniquely refreshing about stepping into a character, becoming a name, a logic, a way of being in the world that is not your own. For the Rome Savoyards’ forthcoming run of Milo Cramer’s Business Ideas, I play Georgina, my first stage role in long time.

Taking place in a city cafè one morning, Business Ideas is an unconventional, four-woman drama, with moments of surreal comedy and jolts of philosophy. Georgina is a mother of a teen, whom she is desperately trying to motivate to start a business with her. Woven into their (off-the-wall!) brainstorming, is the tense undercurrent between teen and mother. As a counterpoint to this duo on the other side of the cute cafè, a disgruntled barista attemps to network with each random customer. Milo Cramer’s clever script is a pure joy to interpret, especially as it touches upon issues that are poignant for this time.
Acting has been a longtime, though somewhat dormant, passion. In design and acting both, invisible things are made visible, and the emotion is expressed through a structured format. Like Georgina, I also think a great deal about business: branding and the possibility of a Great Idea. And like her, I have a teen who is eager to individuate and question all he’s learned from me. Georgina is a BIG personality – calling upon me to draw upon my Italian-American, New Yawk City roots. Gone are European subtleties, Georgina runs right over it! Pure fun.
