This is how I prepare to receive a Naquist guest. Before they arrive, I lay out the creative buffet: pigments, paints, papers, fragments of maps, inks, collage elements gathered over years.
A spread for the imagination.
Each person gravitates toward something different. We flow intuitively from stillness to making. Tthe artistic work is not always production, and yet works shall emerge from our process.
In the days that follow, I return to what was made and resolve it into a finished piece in my studio, shipped from Rome to the guest.

I’m interested in the vibratory power of words, how they carry memory, myth, medicine. Not to illustrate meaning, but to let it imbue.

Collaged in this work is print from the 16th Century, showing the goddess in a kind of repose, reading a large tome. This is a rare glimpse at Athena, as she is usually shown in a stiff, war-ready stance.

Words hold energy beyond their literal meaning. Like in Masaru Emoto’s studies of water crystals, where spoken or written words visibly altered molecular
structure, I sense that each word carries a frequency. In Calligraphic Abstraction, I begin with a specific word or phrase and let its emotional resonance move through me. Though the letterforms
dissolve, the vibration of the word remains, embedded in the stroke, the rhythm, the composition. The viewer may not read the word, but they can feel its presence. Often I write a word or phrase while listening, to wind, to ocean, to operatic aria, or simply to the heart’s beating. These influence the brushstroke and the word’s shape. Each piece becomes a symbol, not meant to be deciphered, but recognized subconsciously and felt #artist #designer #calligraphicabstraction #studio
