Stark Whim | Simone Rocha x H&M

For her collaboration with H&M, Simone Rocha proposed silhouettes from a long-gone era. Full of poetic pieces, bows and and tulle sheaths, the intricate collection tells the story of a designer well in tune with her voice. I’ve written about this designer’s remarkable style that blends opposites – and with this new high-low collection, there is an added dimension to this idea.

In the H&M line, we experience a whimsical reality – such a welcome escape after a year in homey clothing. Balloon sleeves, pearl half moons, shots of cherry red and just the right touch of tailored detailing are what I noted immediately. The ribboned bowties against plaited hair feel fresh, while reminding me of children’s wear of the 19th century. Same with balloon sleeves and modest length poof skirts. What I am about to buy – before it sells out – is this tailored tulle sheath in a rosy neutral shade:

Among the soft palettes and easy tulle, I enjoyed the contrasts of black and red, occasionally plaid. Harmonized with a cherry-blossom pink, the collection’s colors are inspired.
