Venezia
A recent visit to Venice coincided with the record-breaking aqua alta – flooding. I found myself walking thigh-high in the waters and deep in emotion. Visually, the landscape was all sea – with the gorgeous architectural treasures emerging out of it like a floating, other-world. There was a solemnity – a silence broken only by the occasional city-wide flood alarms. Its beauty was magnified with its vulnerability.
Venezia, long a romantic and dreamy destination, has inadvertently become a more profound symbol of whether humanity’s resourcefulness can recover and save the very places we have built so beautifully, from the errors that will result in destruction.
Incorporating imagery by the 16th Venetian designer Iseppo Foresto, this Iconic is dedicated to the beautiful, watery city.
