Esperanza

Esperanza, the beautiful word for hope in Italian.

I took this photograph on the second floor of the Chiostro del Bramante, where square seats are carved into the colonnnade, which surrounds an inner, open-air courtyard. The halls are lined with tables, lightly occupied by diners, studiers and travelers taking a break. Once seated, one’s presence is invisible from the large windows shown here, as the windows are quiet high. The flowers were placed as a kind of marker so that guests of a certain party would know where to find the others seated at a hidden table.

The effect of the Spring flowers in the Renaissance stone felt like Spring — fresh color popping up amidst winter’s monotones.
